Papillon has existed since 1965 and presents itself as the oldest helicopter company in the world. Maverick has an equally impressive track record, having operated thousands of flights since 1995.

Can I take photos from the helicopter ?

Yes, you can take photos and videos during the flight. Note, before the aircraft takes off, this is not permitted.


How long are the flights ?

From the Grand Canyon South Rim, flights last from 20 minutes to 45 minutes.

From Grand Canyon West, flights last from 10 minutes to 40 minutes.

From Las Vegas, flights last from 70 minutes to 3 hours.


What type of helicopter do you use ?

The ECO-Star helicopter is the roller coaster of tourist helicopters.

Papillon

Papillon pilots ECO-Star helicopters, Airbus A-Star and the Bell Helicopter 206. Note that the latter is the noisiest and that the rear seats face each other.

Maverick

Maverick exclusively flies ECO-Star helicopters. Maverick introduces the world's largest and youngest fleet of ECO-Star helicopters.


When is the best time to fly over the Grand Canyon ?

Maverick Helicopters has a proprietary language translation system called MavStar. This GPS-based system is activated at certain times during the aerial tour. The MavStar system is currently available in the following languages: Cantonese, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish. The MavStar system is not available on all helicopters and must be requested at time of booking along with language preference.

Are there extra fees for overweight people ?

Airplanes and helicopters have a maximum weight capacity as well as other restrictions that govern the balance of the aircraft. All passengers on the plane and/or helicopter will be weighed at check-in. Passengers weighing more than 300 pounds will be charged a fee for an additional comfort seat. This fee is based on the product and ranges from $50 to $300.


Can I book a flight when I arrive ?

Of course ! Papillon & Maverick take reservations upon arrival. However, better prices are available online and helicopter and plane tours are often sold out. Reservations in advance are recommended.


How to be at the front of the helicopter ?

For safety reasons, front seats are determined by the pilot at the time of your flight and are based on balancing the weight of the helicopter.

Papillon

For flights using EcoStar EC-130 helicopters, Papillon gives you the opportunity to request a front seat when making your reservation. If you make this request and are chosen to sit in a front seat, Papillon will charge you an additional $50 per person when checking in for your flight.

Even if you request a front seat, it is not guaranteed. Ultimately, it depends on other passengers and weight distribution, and the pilot has the final say in deciding who gets a front seat.

Is reconfirmation required ?

Reservations not reconfirmed will be subject to postponement or cancellation.

Is there a fuel surcharge ?

What happens if I don't show up ?

No-show reservations will be canceled if the passenger has not checked in at least 45 minutes before the flight time. In this case, the flight is not reimbursed.


What is your cancellation/change policy ?

Papillon

Unless otherwise noted, most tours can be changed or canceled without penalty up to 48 hours before the departure date, subject to availability. If you decide to cancel your tour, a credit voucher will be issued, valid for up to one year from the original purchase date. Cancellations within 48 hours of departure date are non-refundable.

Maverick

Changes or cancellations are not permitted within 72 hours of departure. No-shows will be charged in full without refund. All passengers must check-in 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time; non-compliance may result in flight cancellation without refund. Maverick does not charge a fee for rescheduling requests made outside of 72 hours before your departure time.


When will I receive my booking confirmation ?

Immediately after booking you will receive an order receipt. This receipt acknowledges that all required information has been received and that your credit card has been successfully processed. Within 24 hours you will receive confirmation of your flight to the email address you entered when booking.
